Isolated CdO nanoparticles are grown over 5 degree miscut r-sapphire substrate using Spray Pyrolysis method. The growth of isolated CdO nanoparticles are substrate dependent. Among various substrates used: Si, c-Sapphire, a-sapphire, r-sapphire, glass, quartz etc. r-sapphire provided favourable nucleation sites for the growth of isolated CdO.

The density of CdO nanoparticles increased on etching the sapphire substrate (5 degree miscut) using phosphoric acid. Etching resulted in increase of effective nucleation sites and hence the density of CdO nanoparticles.  

X-TEM image of ZnO quantum dots grown over glass substrate using Spray Pyrolysis

X-TEM image clearly show that the ZnO quantum dots (QD's) are grown over a wetting layer. The ZnO QD's are grown over a wetting layer of thickness ~15 nm. The study exhibit the versatility of Spray Pyrolysis method, by precise control of growth parameters one could deposit thin film in the range of few tens of nanometer.
